A Guide To Makeup For Beginners

If you have ever found yourself getting lost amongst flocks of make-up product ranges, then this blog is here to save you! With social media and stores being flooded by a plethora of beauty products sounding and appearing alike, for a make-up beginner rummaging through them to find your make-up routine and products can be a nightmare.

Do not lose hope as we have listed down the basic steps of makeup for beginners to give flight to your makeup journey

Step 1: Washing your Face

Pick a cleanser suitable to your skin type-

  • Normal Skin -

Choose a Water-based cleanser (low pH & doesn’t irritate your skin)

  • Oily Skin -

Go for a mild-water-based cleanser (containing Salicylic acid). Or, a mild-cleansing foam with Tea oil would work just as well.

  • Dry Skin -

Preferably use a mild, gentle, and hydrating face wash.

Step 2: Toning and Moisturizing

Prepping your skin goes a long way in holding down your makeup and should be followed religiously by makeup beginners or experts. Washing and Moisturizing your skin avoids the foundation from sticking to the dry parts as well as preventing a cakey make-up look

  1. Normal Skin -
  • Toner:

Pick up your toner to balance the pH level and remove oil and dirt missed by the cleanser

  • Moisturizer:

Moisturize with SPF to block the harmful UV rays

2. Oily Skin

  • Toner-

Look for a toner that refines your skin’s texture and minimizes your pores, while at the same time maintains the moisture balance of your skin

  • Moisturizer -

Stick to emulsions or gel-type moisturizes

3. Dry Skin

You can choose to skip over Toner and dabble into moisturizing your beautiful face!

  • Moisturizer -

Go for a product that contains hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin, and B vitamins

Step 3: Move to Face Primer

Now, we begin the journey of makeup for beginners. Primer sets the base for your make-up, evens it out, and helps the makeup stick around for a long day at work or lounging!

Choose your a face primer that matches your skin type and we are here to help with that decision-

  1. Mattifying Face Primer: A mattifying face primer would be the best bet for Oily skin type. It will prolong the wear of your foundation. Do go for a silicone-based one as it creates a mattifying layer between your skin and make-up wear and also smoothens and blurs unwanted pores.
  2. Hydrating Face Primer: This type of face primer works best for Dry skin. Do look for the ones that include ingredients like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants.
  3. Color Correcting Face Primer: As the name suggests. these face primers work in counteracting under. lying skin tones. Such as, Green face primers offset redness while blue ones correct sallow or yellow tones.
  4. Blurring Face Primer: Ideal for Mature Skin Type. These face primers work towards smoothening creases and wrinkles

Makeup for Beginnners Tip:

Apply primer in fine, sheer layers, focusing on the forehead, cheeks, and chin. As it will blur and mattify the T-zone areas (known for being notoriously oily).

  • Use the all time hit upside triangle technique to conceal under the eyes by drawing two inverted triangles under your eyes. And, begin blending the edges into your foundation by lightly dabbing.
