About Bhutan

Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ eastern edge, is known for its monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs), and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. In the High Himalayas, peaks such as 7,326m Jomolhari are popular trekking destinations. Paro Taktsang monastery (also known as Tiger’s Nest) clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley.

The Young King Jigme Singye Wangchuck soon after his coronation ceremony set out to establish an indicator of a nation's happiness by ideating an index termed ''Gross National Happiness". He firmly held the belief that a nation's contentment cannot be solely dependent on economic gains. Ergo, the four pillars defining GNP are: to increase economic growth and development, preserve and promote the cultural heritage, encourage sustainable use of the environment, and establish good governance. 

Bhutan's weather varies from terrain to terrain. In North bordering Tibet,  the country is perennially covered with snow while the West, East, and Central regions of Bhutan mostly experience European-like weather. Winter lasts here from November to March.
